What is Fever?
Fever is one of the protecting mechanism of the body. In high temperature the microbes can't replicate properly and hence decreases the rate of division. When there is a microbial infection or other disorders in the body
When the disease becomes threat to life or organs blood circulation decreases, Temperature of fever will emerges to increase prevailing blood circulation. And it acts as a protective covering of the body to sustain life.
Simple Definition of fever and difference from disease
A fever is a symptom or one of the factors of a disease. Whereas a disease is a collection of such symptoms.
In other words.
Fever can be a result of many diseases but cannot be used to define any of them single handedly. And is usually inconclusive about its causes.
A disease on the other hand is defined by a certain set of symptoms such as fever, pain, cough, etc.
Types of Fever
If a person’s temperature remains above normal within a span of twenty-four hours and doesn't fluctuate more than 1 degree centigrade called continus fever.
Pneumonia - A severe bacterial infection in the lungs usually caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Heamophilus influenza, and Moraxella catarrhalis. It causes difficulty in breathing and impaired exchange of gases.
Urinary Tract Infection
An infection of the urinary tract, it is mostly caused by bacteria (E. coli and Staphylococcus saprophyticus) and rarely by viruses and fungi. This disease gives the infected severe discomfort whenever urinating.
Brought about by the ingestion of food and water contaminated with the faeces of a person infected by bacteria under Salmonella subspecies; this dreaded disease causes body weakness, enlargement of the liver, and intestinal bleeding.
A kind of fever that is present for a certain period of time, only for it to disappear, and then return again, perpetuating the cycle.
There are three subtypes of remittent fever:
quotidian fever, which causes the cycle to loop within 24 hours;
tertian fever, which is within 48 hours; and
quartan fever, which is within 72 hours.
A disease contracted from the bite of an Anopheles mosquito that is carrying Plasmodium species bacteria. Aside from fever, malaria causes fatigue, vomiting, headaches, and seizures.
Septicemia - A generalised infection of multiple body systems caused by a wide plethora of bacteria as well as fungi and viruses.
This kind of fever is similar to continuous fever, as the affected individual will continually have an elevated temperature. However, the key difference is that it fluctuates more than 1 degree centigrade.
A disease that causes this is infective endocarditis, which causes inflammation of the inner tissues of the heart. This is chiefly caused by Streptococcus aureus.
A severe increase of a person’s body temperature, which reaches up to 41.5 degrees centigrade. This is usually caused by intracranial hemorrhage, Kawasaki’s syndrome, thyroid storm, and other diseases and pathogens.
Because of its possible complications, this is treated as a medical emergency and therefore must be dealt with by aggressive interventions.
While not exactly regarded as an actual kind of fever because it is not the body generating the high temperature, which in turn causes usual side effects such as convulsions and difficulty in breathing. I read in somewhere coronavirus covid19 causing hyperthermia (not yet confirmed)
Causes of Fever
Fever of Respiratory Tract Infection
when any microorganism causes infection in somewhere from nose to lungs. it causes many symptoms like fever, runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, headache, cough and etc and fever is one of them.
Fever of Liver Infection
when any foreign body such as hepatitis virus or entamoeba histolytica enter the liver lead to infection, it leads to fever, jaundice, pale stool and yellow urine.
Fever of COVID-19 coronavirus
It depends on several factors including age, gender, health status, immunity levels, conditions of living or living style and the type of viral infection.
For instance, rhinoviruses cause the common cold and typically your fever would last for 1-2 days. Influenza viruses cause the flu and your fever would subside in 2-3 days.
The duration of viral fever in adults varies largely from the duration of viral fever in toddlers. Babies are not as adaptable as adults when it comes to temperature regulation which is why it can be tougher to bring viral fever under control.
Similarly, a child’s immune system is not as strong as an adult which means that they are more susceptible to infections. The duration of viral fever in kids can be 2-3 days longer as compared to adults.
